Hello! We’re kids for the culture!

We foster positive racial identity development in Youth of African Descent.

About Us

Kids For The Culture is a non-profit with a mission to foster positive racial identity development in Youth of African Descent. Feeling good about their heritage, history, and appearance is particularly crucial for Black youth. We create spaces where they are celebrated and can develop their emotional well-being and other healthy outcomes.

And because it takes a village to raise healthy children, we offer non-Black people of all ages opportunities to immerse themselves in the rich cultures and stories of the diaspora, learn how race impacts our youth, and truly “see” Black youth for who they are.

We believe in the power of positive people, places, and programs.

Based in Willamette
Valley, Oregon

Believe it or not, Black folks do reside in Oregon. In a state designed to exclude Black people, our presence is a testament to our resilience.

Life in predominantly white Oregon can be especially hard for Black children being raised in rural areas. The lack of culturally-specific resources contribute to isolation and may impact their emotional well-being. Black Oregonian children deserve the same safety, opportunities, representation, and sense of belonging as their white peers. We create spaces in which they can form meaningful relationships, celebrate their identities, and thrive.

We acknowledge our service area, prior to colonization and the forced removal of indigenous people, are the traditional homelands of the Kalapuya people.
